Our Story

Karen, a Malaysian, won a scholarship to complete her A-levels in Singapore. She went on to obtain her degree and became a teacher. She spent 20 years in Singapore. After three visits to Seattle, she is now no longer just a visitor. Malaysia, Singapore and now Seattle are all HOME to her.

Born in California but a Seattlelite at heart, Chad has spent most of his childhood in Seattle, has been to Singapore once and has been working in the Media Industry in Seattle for many years.

Ours is one of those online romances which actually worked. Even Karen was surprised at how quickly she knew Chad was 'The One'. Her intuition has always been on the mark. Although she doesn't always listen as she should, this time she did. Chad felt the same way and the rest, as they say, "is history". Getting married for the first time at a mature age of 38 and 40, we probably had a better idea of what we were looking for in a life partner.

This photo was on Chad's online profile.
Karen:"The photo I first saw was just a thumbnail. I was curious to see if the character standing next to that guy was really 'Tigger'. It was 'Tigger'!
The other thing that caught my eye was Chad's headline 'I've got your glass slipper here somewhere'. That made me smile."

In his profile, Chad describes himself as "...usually smiling and with a twinkle in my eye. I am usually in awe of a good movie, one that stays with me, one that I think about for afterwards. Karen has since been to more movies in the past year than in the previous 10 years, and loving it. Those eyes continue to twinkle.

This was Chad's first glimpse of Karen. Travelling is one of Karen's passion. You can see the somewhat dishevelled hair after a day cycling around Berlin. Chad really likes this picture. He likes the way Karen's sunglasses are resting on her head and he loves that smile.
In her profile, Karen described the person she would like to meet as "Someone brave enough to try a new dish I'm experimenting with." Chad has eaten and liked (so far) everything that Karen has cooked. Karen is someone who "likes broadway shows". In the last 6 weeks, Karen and Chad have seen Broadway's 'The Color Purple' and 'The Lion King' together and aim to see at least one play/musical per quarter.

More about Chad and Karen at their blog at The Singapore Seattle Connection.
